EDF Energy has just announced that gas and electricity prices will rise 10.8% from 7 December.

EDF is the fifth of the Big Six energy firms to announce price increases and it is the biggest rise so far. Despite this, EDF claim that their prices will still be lower than the rest of the major suppliers.

E.On, the last of the Big Six, has previously said that it would leave prices unchanged for the rest of the year.

EDF attributed the rises to not only the cost of wholesale energy, but also to government policies including mandatory energy efficiency and social schemes.
