We hope the following articles related to energy assessments may be of interest to you, they relate to some of the questions that we are frequently asked.
Renewables and the UK Grid
In an earlier article I described how Commercial EPCs ratings have changed dramatically due to changes made in June 2022, to reflect the increased contribution of renewables to the UK’s electricity network. There’s a great site https://gridwatch.co.uk/ where...
Energy Requirements for DECs
To complete a DEC, energy data is required for a 12-month period. Typically this is gas and electricity, but could include LPG, oil or wood pellets. If there are any on-site renewables - e.g. a solar PV array, the amount of energy generated is also required. All the...
June 2022 Changes to Commercial EPCs
Up until last June, the simplest way to improve the EPC rating of a Commercial property was to change the lighting to LEDs, the more efficient (in terms of lumens per circuit Watt) the better. At that time, gas was king for heating, any direct-electric heating in an...
MEES Regulations
We’re frequently asked about the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES),and whether they apply in a particular case. MEES applies to EPCs for rental properties and not, in theory, to EPCs for properties that are for sale. That said, mortgage lenders are very...
New website
Welcome to our new website, this was required as much of the content needing reviewing in the light of changes in the energy sector, also to provide info in a format that was more mobile-device friendly. Rest assured; we still aim to deliver the same reliable service...
EU Funding for Renewable Energy
Recently the EU Commission announced funding for 23 European renewable-energy projects to the tune of €1.2 Billion. The funding has been awarded across 16 different member states, and a wide range of technologies, including two tidal-power projects from the UK:...
Commercial
We create BRUKL reports and EPCs for new commercial buildings, and as-built EPCs for existing commercial buildings across the Midlands (from Birmingham to Norwich, Nottingham to Watford). Prices for commercial EPCs start at £150 but as commercial buildings vary tremendously is size and complexity, so does the price!

MEES Consultancy
We provide consultancy to help owners and landlords to improve their properties to meet the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) regulations. The starting point for this is an EPC survey and the production of draft EPC.

DECs
Display Energy Certificates (DECs) are required for publicly funded buildings such as schools and clinics. These generally need to be renewed annually and a year’s energy usage data is required to complete them.
